Since I am posting this months before the TCG release of Generation Force, I will post updates.
and because this is a "new": archetype. I feel a need to review them before anyone else.
My Personalized Rating System:
Get familiar with it.
1 - Not even worth using as toilet paper
2 - At the very least, it's a good coaster for your drink.
3 - It's not that bad, but bad is STILL in the sentence.
4 - It's a good card, and even Ray Charles (even though his blind ass is dead) can see it.
5 - Not perfect, but you wouldn't want to wipe your ass with it.
Just let me take a piss first....
*taking a piss*
"felt good"
(I ACTUALLY took one)
Feel free to let me know when there is a card updated for this (or any archetype).
I could use the help.
Mainspring Soldier
During your Main Phase, you can activate this card's effect. Until the End Phase, this card gains 400 ATK, and its Level is increased by 1. This effect can only be activated once while this card is face-up on the field.
It becomes 2200 for NOTHING, but only for the turn. ALL Mainspring monsters share XX-Saber Fullhelmknight's restriction." Once while face-up on the field".
That drawback makes them fair. So in addition to the ATK boost, there is the level increase, which promotes summoning exceed monsters since there is a Exceed monster in the set that requires 2 LV 5 monsters. This makes himself LV5 FOR NOTHING!!! This + Cyber Dragon =
Rating: 4/5
Mainspring Magician
When the effect of a "Mainspring" monster activates, except "Mainspring Magician", you can Special Summon 1 Level 4 or lower "Mainspring" monster from your Deck. This effect can only be activated once while this card is face-up on the field.
This will require you to have at least one OTHER Mainspring to use its effect. This isnt really easy. But summoning one from the deck is ALWAYS good. You just have to run cards that prevent your opponent from attacking. If you do that, it will a bit easier to keep this and someone else out. Remember it only happens ONCE while its face up, so make sure to run cards that flip- cards face down.
Rating: 3/5 (Double Summon/Ultimate Offering FTL?)
Mainspring Juggler
If this card battles with your opponent's monster, you can destroy that monster after damage calculation. This effect can only be used once while this card is face-up on the field.
This is good against recruiters (monsters that are destroyed by battle and replaces itself).
And Spirit Reaper/Marshmallon and even Colossal Fighter.
It's a useful card. You get to choose when you activate its effect. Not much else to say about it. Doesn't have to be in defense position either. I'm sure in just about every deck you'll play against, this will have at least one card it's good against. Especially bigger DEF monsters....
Rating: 4/5
Mainspring Dog
Once, while this card is face-up on the field, you can activate this card's effect during the Main Phase. If you do, this card gains 600 ATK, and its Level is increased by 2 until the End Phase.
Keep in mind that this is a LV3 Beast monster. (Super Nimble Mega Hamster?)
That new priority rule change kicks these things in the balls. But I guess it doesn't matter too much. You shouldn't be normal summoning this in the first place.
Rating: 3/5
Mainspring Snail
Once during your Main Phase, while this card is face-up on the field, you can select 1 Set card on the field. Return the selected card to the hand.
One set card.... This isn't "uncommon" but it's not really the most common restriction you've seen. AT least you don't have to pay anything for it. I suppose this can come in handy. It's like a Abyss Solider (i know it can hit any card, but who cares?) you don't pay for. the 2000 DEF helps alot.
Rating 3/5 (I'm not really sure...)
Mainspring Armored Zenmeister
2 Level 4 monsters
This cards gains 300 DEF for each of its Exceed Material Monsters. Once per turn, you can remove 1 Exceed Material Monster from this card to select 1 face-up monster on the field. Flip that monster to face-down Defense Position. During the End Phase, the selected monster is flipped to face-up Attack Position.
Summoner Monk + Mainspring Magician = This. Of course you could use this out of Mainspring, but its place is with them. The effect is good. Remove an Exceed Material from it to BoM a monster. this can either be your monster of the opponents. I guess its more like Book of Eclipse (just for one monster and no opponent drawing). If you have 2 and remove one for its effect, it will be 2200, which should get over commonly used monsters.
And if you're wondering why the end phase. its because its supposed to work with mainspring and it would be "broken"(?) to Momentarily Blink a monster and reset its effect.
Rating: 3/5 (monk boosted the rating for this)
Over Wrench

Trap
Activate only by selecting 1 face-up "Mainspring" monster. That monster's ATK and DEF are doubled, and it is returned to the hand during the End Phase of this turn. Only 1 "Over Wrench" can be activated per turn.
Damage Step nonsense! which is ALWAYS welcome. It's a trap which bothers me but you can't have every card a Quick-Play. I think it's alright but if you wanted to return it to the hand, just use Compulsory.
Rating 2/5
Legendary Mainspring
(Image not available)
Quick-Play Spell
All face-up "Mainspring" monsters you control are flipped into face-down Defense Position.
This is intended to push the archetype. They kind of failed. Here's why. they didn't give a way to protect them. they can temporarily boost themselves but that's usually a one-shot deal. Putting all of them face-down does allow you to flip summon them and use their effects again, but that's ONLY if they are alive!
Rating 2/5
Mainspring Manufacture

Continuous Spell
If the effect of a Mainspring is activated, you can add 1 Level 4 or lower Mainspring from your Deck to your hand. This effect can only be used once per turn.
A Mainspring (card?). Until rulings show otherwise, this will be quite silly. it will trigger off of Legendary Mainspring and any other Mainspring cards they make.
BUT I know better and I don't think multiple copies of this would trigger.
But if it does, good times.
Rating: 3/5 (depending on the ruling)

Wow I was kinda wondering about this Archetype thanks for the review.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the blogging idea I might do this type of thing for the Archetypes as well... It's far easier than first waiting for them to be fully revealed and then making a decklist... and then explaining everything about the deck... 5 stars for the hard work.
ReplyDeleteOne general suggestion though... I'm not used to clicking a link and then having to scroll down to see what changed...
